Tag || The Seven Deadly Sins of Makeup

So this is going to be a tag post. I really enjoyed making my own tag with Glitter Melody this summer, and I like how the questions really let you know more about me. This is going to be the ‘seven deadly sins of makeup’ tag. I wasn’t tagged in it but I’ve read blog posts and Youtube videos on this tag and have loved them- so I thought it was time to answer the questions myself.

Greed: What’s your most expensive beauty item?

So I am already stuck, and it’s question one! As you’d know if you’ve read my blog I’m a drugstore make up gall, so my collection has now hugely expensive items. I am just a teenager, so I don’t have too much to spend on makeup. I would say that my most expensive item is my ‘they’re real’ mascara from Benefit, however this was given to me and is only the travel size. I would really like the full size though as this mascara is incredible in making my lashes bold and curled.

Wrath: What item do you have a love/hate relationship with?

My ‘Dream Pure BB cream’ from Maybelline. I sometimes love how this light coverage looks, and think it gives my skin a soft and flawless appearance. However some days I feel the colour doesn’t match and it looks like I’ve caked on makeup. Sadly I have been neglecting using this product too much anymore, and as my skin is good, I have only been using concealer for skin makeup.

Gluttony: What brand takes up most of your collection?

In my makeup collection, my mostly used/ bought brand is Rimmel London. I actually has to think quite hard about this because I don’t really notice what brands I buy a lot from. When makeup shopping I like to try different brands and different price ranges, I normally focus on the product more than the name on the bottle. Rimmel is great for a good range of products, great quality and affordable prices. Some products I have include: Stay Matt powder, Kate Moss lipstick and the Hide the Blemish concealer. My follow up brand would be Maybelline.

Sloth: What product do you neglect the most due to laziness?

I would say the step that I would do, but neglect due to my laziness, is eyeshadow. If I even bother with eyeshadow, I mostly will put on a single neutral shade all over the lid. The only time I bother with eyeshadow is if I am going out somewhere special. I love the look of some people’s daily eyeshadow but it takes too long for me to blend in the shadows. So I skip it.

Pride: What product gives you the most confidence?

Eyeliner. I have been using eyeliner for about a year, and it was defiantly what started my love for makeup. I think having some eyeliner on my lids really make me feel me. I like a small flick, unless I’m trying out a different look, and normally stick to either felt tip liner or liquid liner. I always feel more beautiful and don’t feel self-conscious, like I can with some makeup products like bright lipsticks.  The only time I don’t like to wear it in my makeup look is school, as my school has make up rules and I feel too made up for school.

Lust: Which item is top of your beauty wish list?

So this isn’t probably what you’d expect from a beauty question but actually it is make up brushes. Brushes are key to creating good make up and I think before I buy too many pricy items, I need some essentials like brilliant brushes. I would really like to try the ‘Real Techniques’ brushes.

Envy: Which makeup product/look is great on others but not on you?

I would say this is brows. I have quite large brows, naturally, and they are also quite dark. I have tried, and failed, to fill in my brows or fill in the sparse parts. I also think, due to my age, this make up technique wouldn’t suit me- a lot like my current views on contouring my face.

And that’s all the questions. I would love to hear your answers, so comment them down below or post the on your blogs and link them in the comments! I also tag Hannah (Glitter Melody) to do this on her Youtube channel- which I have been loving! Check her out: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCh05apA4x5wzKe31DxTRrxg
Thanks everyone,

REVIEW- BarryM Gelly Nail Polish

So as many of my readers know, I have an obsession with BarryM nail polishes. Recently, my new addiction has been the ‘Gelly, hi-shine’ range. This summer the brand has clearly put a lot of work into creating a lot of new colours in the collection, and here is my review.

So I have three of the Gelly polishes, and I love all of them. I have the colours ‘Blueberry’, ‘Prickly Pear’ and ‘Sugar Apple’, and I think they are all stunning unique shades.

Blueberry is a shade I have talked about before, including my April favourites post: http://mydaisychaincloset.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05/my-monthly-favourites-april.html , and is a beautiful blue. With undertones of purple, this paint is a stunning cornflower blue. In some ways it appears pastel, in some ways it looks bright. I think it’s a very universal polish as it matches many of my clothes and looks great on finger and toenails.

Prickly Pear is a gorgeous lilac purple. It’s a very intriguing purple, as it is not like a pastel lilac but it is nowhere near a dark purple! I like to wear it on my nails because it looks very girly, but stays away from the common pink shades.

Sugar Apple is a mint green shade. It’s different to a lot of mint greens as it is a very light colour, and looks more like pastel. On first wear, I found them quick shocking and bright, but soon I began to love them.

One of the best things about the Gelly nail polishes is their consistency. The Gelly range is meant to be thinker and appear more like gel nails- and this is defiantly what it does. When you put the first layer on, with or without a basecoat, it will go on like a normal polish and then in seconds become more opaque and thick looking. Most of the polishes in the range could be worn with one coat, but if you want them for a longer time, I recommend two layers.

Talking about long wear, the Gelly collection is great for not chipping. I can wear this for seven days and it still looks perfect, this is especially great for holidays when you don’t want to change your polish colour but you don’t want chips.
The last pro point for the polish is the hi-shine part. Now, I love topcoats. I love the shine they give the nails and the extra chip-protection. However I don’t wear one with the Gelly nail polishes because you don’t need to. When the polish becomes opaque a natural shine/ topcoat look is on the nail. This saves money and time, I love it!

So that’s all. I’m really keen to try some more of the Gelly polishes this summer autumn and possibly also their matte and aquarium range. What is your favourite Barry M polish? What nail polish brand would you recommend? Have a great summer,

My Travel Diary - Teignmouth, Devon

Hey,
So on Saturday 26th of July, my family and I all went down for a daytrip to Teignmouth. Teignmouth is an English seaside town in Devon. This day trip is part of my 'travel diaries series'.

We travelled down to Teignmouth on the train, I love train journeys by the way. I read my Look magazine, enjoyed a breakfast of coffee and mixed fruit and chilled to my summer music playlist. We spent the day exploring the town and enjoys the English sun on the beach.
The town in Teignmouth is really beachy, filled with souvenir stores as well as the normal high-street shops. All the streets and strung with Union Jack bunting and fairy lights, and the salty smell of the sea.
We went on the pier, which was mostly destroyed in the storms earlier this year, and then went down to the beach. This Saturday was boiling and really felt like summer. When I laid down on my towel and closed my eyes, I could’ve been anywhere.

The sea water was frosty but I soon got used to it, and I paddled in- knee high. After I relished in the satisfying game of writing in the send. I wrote this message thinking of all of you, have a great summer everyone!

There were lots of seagulls on the beach and in the town, and I got some pretty good shots. Teignmouth seagulls are defiantly very brave, I could get very close and they wouldn’t even look up from whatever they were doing!
It got a bit rainy later in the day, but nothing could dampen our spirits! We spent the afternoon walking around, reading for our train home at 5.

Overall I had an amazing day, it’s great that sometimes you don’t have to go very far to enjoy the sun! Teignmouth was beautiful and a perfect seaside town. I hope you all have had an incredible summer break so far, keep enjoying it,

Have you ever volunteered? | Lifestyle

Hey,
So this post is going to be a more lifestyle themed post. This post, as you’ve guessed from the title, is about volunteering. I wanted to talk a bit about my experience and about the benefits it can offer. I really hope you read this, because I think it’s important that we, as humans, give back and volunteering is a great way to do this.

I volunteer weekly by helping out at Rainbows- a club for girls aged 5-7. On a Thursday evening, for an hour, I become ‘Sunny’- the helper that the kids love to talk to. I use my experience of being a Rainbow, Brownie and Guide myself, to support the two leaders that run the club. I help run activities, play games with them, and am in charge of my own sub group of five girls. This is quite an easy way to volunteer for me, as it has always been an option for me, but I do love it nonetheless. I love to see their drawings, and to chat with them, whilst still educating them on the Girl Guide teaching- of being kind and helpful etc.

I am also privileged to say that the whole of last week I got to volunteer in an annual holiday school, in my area, which is run by the church. The club takes just over 250 children, aged from 5- 10, and I was just one of many helpers. I chose to volunteer because I had never been before, although I had heard about it as a child. I absolutely loved the whole week. I made many new ks2 friends, and enjoyed a week of games, teaching and fun. One of the main reasons I took part was because my friend was, and I am so happy that I did because I know it is something I want to be part of for years to come. I made new friends, with the other volunteers, and even though I was tired out after it ever night, I still gave my all. All the children that go have an amazing time, and the smiles on their faces say it all, as well as the sad goodbyes at the end of the week.

Obviously, there are so many ways to volunteer, and my ways are just about helping run clubs with children, but that’s what interests me most. I love to work with children, and volunteering this way is a joy. However I know for some people, this would be hell. What I mean to say, is that there are so many options for volunteering and that this is just one.

Consider all the choices. Clearly some depend on your age, and how much time you have to spare, but remember a little help is better than none. Every area will have specialised places that need volunteers; consider helping out at the local library, nursing home, school clubs or charity shops. Why not read to an elderly member of the community? Is there something you can do that links with your love of animals? Why not help at the schools homework club? Think outside the box and choose something that will interest you the most.

I think many people, of any age, put aside volunteering because they think it’s just helping old people, or that they don’t have any time to do it, or because they can’t be bothered. I know, from my bit of experience, that volunteering really pays you back with happiness. You can feel like you’ve given back to the community, that you’ve really helped someone and that you’ve made a difference, no matter how small. I would really urge you to at least consider the possibility of volunteering, and the benefits that is can offer.

July Favourites

So it’s the end of July, can you believe it’s only 5 months to Christmas? So this month has been fab for me, there have been so many amazing memories and wonderful days out. I got to go to Italy for a week with all my friends, to have an incredible week volunteering and to have so many extraordinary days with my friends and family.
It’s been a while since I did a ‘monthly favourites’ post; I thought I would do one for this summery month. These products are just a few of the products I have been testing and using, and thoroughly enjoying.

First of my favourites are my white peacocks ‘converse’ copies. I wear these all the time; they have defiantly become my most worn summer shoes. They are practical, comfortable, match with everything and make me feel so confident in my outfit. I find they really add a touch to an outfit, and the white colour makes it feel more summery. I like to match these low-tops with either hidden black trainer socks or white frill socks (Primark as normal).  These shoes were a bargain as well, at just £10 from http://www.peacocks.co.uk/lds-shoe-canvas-lc-up-rub-toe-white.html . They’re great if you really want a pair of white converse but can’t afford the crazy price tag.

The next is sort of linked by the last, by feet. I have always loved the feature of anklets but have never been confident in wearing them. I have quite thick ankles, so I find the look of friendship bracelet/ thread bracelets really don’t suit me. I have been enjoying wearing this golden leaf anklet from Primark, especially on sunny days and on holiday. I don’t like to keep it constantly on, but is a great way to add something to a dull look. I fell in love with this particular anklet when I saw it, and is the only one I wear from the three pack. I think the pack was about £2.50- so it was great for experimenting with.

So my third favourite is my sunflower skirt. I LOVE THIS SKIRT. It is great for summer as it is so bright and interesting, and can be worn so easily. With white converse, a black crop top and my hair down- an outfit is made. When I wear this I feel confident and happy that I look so bright, the skater style is also quite flattering. I bought this for £15 from Misguided, but it is currently available for just over £7 in the sale. Link- http://www.missguided.co.uk/catalog/product/view/_ignore_category/1/id/113238/ .

So as you also saw in my summer haul, this year I bought myself new sunglasses. These cat-eye like sunglasses are now one of my favourite accessories and are an essential to a summer outfit. I wore these on holiday, but also in day to day life. In the past I would always buy cheap basic sunglasses, but I would defiantly recommend having a slightly more expensive pair which really suit you. Mine are from Accessorize and were just £14. Sadly, these are now out of stock on the website but I would defiantly recommend checking out Accessorize for sunglasses!

Next is a nail polish that I bought and fell in love with this summer. Lately, on my nails, I have been enjoying a mix of pastel and bright colours, but nothing too neon or in your face. This is a beautiful lilac/ purple shade that I wore and loved. The shade ‘prickly pear’ from Barry M’s ‘Gelly’ range is the polish, and I have been impressed with both the colour and consistency. I wore this for a whole week with only a few chips- this was without a topcoat/ basecoat. I really would recommend purple nails as it is girly, bright but matches well with many outfits. The ‘Gelly’ range is currently my favourite nail polish brand because at just £3.99, the thickness and colour range is marvellous. To buy them go to- http://www.barrym.com/products/nails/effects/gelly-nail-effects.html!

Following that is a skincare item. This scrub is a product I’ve been using for the last few months and am only just coming to finish it. The simple ‘kind to skin, facial scrub’ is a product you are meant to use 2 times a week. It is simple to use, just message in and wipe off with warm water. You only need a small amount each time and then the small beads in the paste will exfoliate your skin. Priced at just £3.29, the product is so cheap but works so well. Buy at boots- http://www.boots.com/en/Simple-Kind-To-Skin-Smoothing-Facial-Scrub-75ml_4803/.

My seventh item is a general hair accessory. Floral crowns this year are very in style and I love to wear them. I have always adored wearing flowers in my hair, but the wired floral crowns are so simple and yet look so good. I simple wear my hair natural and either place them on or bobby pin them in. Also, they can really make an outfit, some days I just wear a plain outfit and this accessory makes me look put together. They are girly, easy and perfect for summer days and evenings. I have four crowns now, a daisy one from Claire’s, an old pink one from Primark, a large sunflower one from Primark and one from a market that my friend gave me-with pink and white roses. Some are very pricy so I would defiantly recommend checking out some cheaper stores!

On the subject of hair, now I want to talk about a serum I’ve been using this month. This is the first serum I have ever used, and I really like using this. The Aussie ‘duel personality’ serum targets hair to enhance curls and create a soft feel to the hair. This is great for people with naturally curly hair, as I either use it on wet hair or just if my hair is looking flat. Take two or three pumps and just scrunch it through you curls. It is quite pricy at £5.19 for the small amount you get but if you use it rarely it’s worth it. Buy at boots- http://www.boots.com/en/Aussie-Dual-Personality-Styling-Curl-Definition-Soft-Feel-Serum-75ml_52534/.

So if you’ve noticed, in the last few make up themed posts I have talked a lot about the Maybelline ‘the falses, volume express’ mascara in waterproof. At first, I didn’t think much about this mascara, but after a few uses I really noticed the length and bold-ness that this product gave my lashes. It’s an average price for a drugstore mascara at £7.99 but does really make your lashes look very extravagant. Buy it here- http://www.boots.com/en/Maybelline-Falsies-Mascara-Waterproof-Black_1416719/.

The last item, another make up item, is my ‘supercat’ liner from Soap&Glory. I have been using my Primark £1.50 eyeliner for months, but I got bored of it and found myself noticing that it didn’t last very long. My new choice was a felt tip eyeliner that was recommended a lot on Youtube. I have really liked this long-lasting eyeliner, and have found that the fine tip is easy to apply and create different looks with it. It was £6, which is good for Soap&Glory make up. I know that I’ll be using this a lot from now on, and enjoy experimenting with the makeup looks. Buy at- http://www.boots.com/en/Soap-Glory%C2%99-Supercat%C2%99-Eyeliner-Pen-Carbon-Black-Extreme_1450229/.

Hobby of the month-scrapbooking. Lately I have been doing a scrapbook from my Italy holiday, and have enjoyed putting all my photos together. I would defiantly recommend doing this for summer days as it lets you rekindle memories and create a book of happiness.

Miss Selfridge- I have only bought one this from this shop but it’s been my favourite item of clothing. The pretty purple cami top from Miss Selfridge, seen in my summer haul: http://mydaisychaincloset.blogspot.co.uk/2014/06/haul-summer-edition-july-2014.html , is an item I have worn again
and again and again. It’s so flattering and suits me so well. I love how it looks with skirts and with jeggings and think it’s the best summer top!

And that’s all of my current favourite items! What have you been loving? Can you recommend anything to me? Let me know in the comments below,
