Nail Polsih Review: The Perfect Nude 'Lychee'

For a long time now, I’ve been on the search for the perfect nude manicure. Painting my nails is one of the things I love to do, but when I’m not feeling the bright bold shade- then I need something simpler.

So after trying out a few different shades and brands, I came across a wonderful shade from BarryM. I know I talk about these polishes loads, which was why I wanted to try out some different brands before I tried this one, but there really is no good alternative for the same price.

The shade is ‘Lychee’ fromBarry M’s Gelly Hi Shine range. The colour really compliments my skin tone, and isn’t too pinky or yellows. It’s the perfect balance. I’ve worn this polish a few times now and I just keep coming back wanting more.

I feel like my hands look prettier with this on and the fact its nude means I don’t have to worn about clashing colours. Furthermore, as well as this lasting all week without chips, I don’t even have to change it because it will always match and blend into any look. I love this for day wear, night wear and I think it’s a great substitute for a coloured shade.

The polish is a bargain at just £3.99- how I love Barry M’s prices- and there’s is no need for an additional topcoat or base. This formulation is thick, I apply two coats, and an all-in-one.

So, what nail polish shades are you loving at the moment? What brand keeps you addictively buying new shade? I’d love to know in the comments! I’ll see you all on Sunday, have a lovely day,

My Top Winter Nail Polishes | Blogmas Day 14

Hey,
SO I wanted to begin with saying that I’m sorry! Today’s post is late because I was really unorganised and managed to get behind. Well at least I got it up before the day was out, today I want to talk about my favourite winter nail polishes. I love painting my nails, and the warmer darker shades are some of my favourite so here are my top 5.

I know the majority of these polishes are from Barry M but that is for two reasons, 1- the brand is amazing and I’m nearly always impressed with every colour I use and 2- the price is always so much more affordable than other brands!

The first shade I have been loving is a classic that I love ever year and always turn back to. This warm brown shade called ‘mushroom’ is from the original Barry M nail paint range. It matches all winter outfits and for just £2.99, it’s a must-have.

The second shade is a gorgeous warm mossy khaki green. I love this shade because it is an alternative the normal navys, burgundys or purples. It is from the Gelly BarryM nail polish range, so is thicker than the nail paint, and is £3.99. The shade is ‘cardamom’.

The third colour is my most recent purchase, a matt dark red called ‘crush’. The berry colour is so popular at this time of year and I am addicted to it as well. This is the first time I have ever tried a matt polish and I like how it is different. Its £3.99 from BarryM, and the colour is one I’m sure every nail polish lover will love.

The fourth is one that is so festive but could be used all year round. This party-season silver glittered polish from SEVENTEEN, is my favourite glitter polish ever. With silver and holographic specs throughout, you can use the shade as a topcoat or as an opaque polish. It is one of the brand’s ‘quicker slicker colour’ polishes that are just £2.99- so a great price!

The fifth is another glitter polish and this glitter is made up of different sized specs of blue, pink, silver, gold and a few others too. I think it is so pretty and would look so cute on top of a black or white. It’s the shade ‘atlantis’ from BarryM’s Aquarium collection and is £3.99. If you’re a glitter-polish lover than take a look at this range because there is a great variety!

And that’s all! I love all these colours but if you have any other winter recommendations then please let me know. I hope you all have a wonderful evening, Christmas is just around the corner now,

REVIEW- BarryM Gelly Nail Polish

So as many of my readers know, I have an obsession with BarryM nail polishes. Recently, my new addiction has been the ‘Gelly, hi-shine’ range. This summer the brand has clearly put a lot of work into creating a lot of new colours in the collection, and here is my review.

So I have three of the Gelly polishes, and I love all of them. I have the colours ‘Blueberry’, ‘Prickly Pear’ and ‘Sugar Apple’, and I think they are all stunning unique shades.

Blueberry is a shade I have talked about before, including my April favourites post: http://mydaisychaincloset.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05/my-monthly-favourites-april.html , and is a beautiful blue. With undertones of purple, this paint is a stunning cornflower blue. In some ways it appears pastel, in some ways it looks bright. I think it’s a very universal polish as it matches many of my clothes and looks great on finger and toenails.

Prickly Pear is a gorgeous lilac purple. It’s a very intriguing purple, as it is not like a pastel lilac but it is nowhere near a dark purple! I like to wear it on my nails because it looks very girly, but stays away from the common pink shades.

Sugar Apple is a mint green shade. It’s different to a lot of mint greens as it is a very light colour, and looks more like pastel. On first wear, I found them quick shocking and bright, but soon I began to love them.

One of the best things about the Gelly nail polishes is their consistency. The Gelly range is meant to be thinker and appear more like gel nails- and this is defiantly what it does. When you put the first layer on, with or without a basecoat, it will go on like a normal polish and then in seconds become more opaque and thick looking. Most of the polishes in the range could be worn with one coat, but if you want them for a longer time, I recommend two layers.

Talking about long wear, the Gelly collection is great for not chipping. I can wear this for seven days and it still looks perfect, this is especially great for holidays when you don’t want to change your polish colour but you don’t want chips.
The last pro point for the polish is the hi-shine part. Now, I love topcoats. I love the shine they give the nails and the extra chip-protection. However I don’t wear one with the Gelly nail polishes because you don’t need to. When the polish becomes opaque a natural shine/ topcoat look is on the nail. This saves money and time, I love it!

So that’s all. I’m really keen to try some more of the Gelly polishes this summer autumn and possibly also their matte and aquarium range. What is your favourite Barry M polish? What nail polish brand would you recommend? Have a great summer,

Spring Nail Polishes

Hey,

So today’s post is going to be a beauty post themed around spring. Here I am reviewing some spring nail polishes, my favourite colours and brands, but also I am including a nail polish I was displeased with. I hope you enjoy my thoughts, and will consider some of these fabulous products.

On all the nail polishes I used my Barry M clear topcoat, basecoat and hardener, which I love so much, as it keeps your nails strong, prevents chipping and adds a lovely sheen and shine to the paint.

The first colour I wore for spring was a bright blue shade. Barry M’s ‘Blueberry’ is a vivid, beautiful tone of blue and is perfect for spring/ summer days when you feel happy. This was the first time I have tried any of the ‘gelly nail effect’ nail polishes from Barry M, which retail at £3.99, and I loved it! The polishes are not dissimilar to the normal nail paint, but they do have a slightly thicker consistency and are must more pigmented. I coated mine twice, but this polish would be fine at a single coat. The polish is a royal blue, with under-tones of a somewhat purple/ lavender colour. Overall I give this nail polish an amazing 9/10, I’m sure to be re-wearing this soon! You can buy the product here: http://www.barrym.com/products/nails/effects/gelly-nail-effects.html.

The next colour is a pastel shade. Pastel colours are always loved in spring time and this is one of my favourites. Barry M’s ‘mint green’, is what it says on the packaging, a perfect mint colour. It is not to strong but still well pigmented. This is an annual favourite for me, and I always get a lot of compliments on it. It is the normal Barry M ‘nail paint’ and is available here: http://www.barrym.com/products/nails/paint/all-nail-paints.html, for only £2.99! I give ‘mint green’ a great 8/10.

The next colour I wore was a huge disappointment. I bought this polish recently from Barry M, if you haven’t guessed my favourite nail polish brand, and was so unhappy. I wanted a lovely pastel pink/ nude shade for the Easter time, and this product was a failure. I bought ‘nude’, a normal Barry M nail paint, and expected a good result. The problem was that the colour was so un-pigmented that it needed many coats to attain any colour, and this had an unusual effect on the paint.
The colour was gorgeous, after the many coats, but even after it had had time to dry it seemed to pull off and had a gungy sticky texture. I had no choice than to take it off after barely a day of wear. I hope this was just my personal product, let me know in the comments. I do not recommend it and give it only 1/10, which is just for the colour that did not last!

The next nail colour I tried was a simple colour I have worn before (sorry for the blurry images). My light blue nail polish is a New Look ‘GOLD’ (Giles) nail polish, that I bought last year at a New Look Store. I’m not sure if the product is still available but the light blue is so pretty for spring.
The paint doesn’t need many coats, and doesn’t chip easily- so I really like it. The light blue really refreshes your nails for spring, and is perfect for summer too! Mine is in the colour Skye, and cost only £2.99! For a similar price and colour match, Barry M’s ‘blue moon’ nail paint is available here: http://www.barrym.com/products/nails/paint/all-nail-paints.html.

The final nail polish I wore was a basic lilac. I love to wear lilac/ lavender purple shade on my nails because it is girly without being over the top, and a lovely alternative to pastel colours. Mine was a freebie from a BLISS magazine last year, but again a similar colour is http://www.superdrug.com/nyc/nyc-expert-last-nail-polish-lavender-cupcakes-257/invt/412250.

So what colours/ brands of nail polish do you like to wear in spring, do you adore bright neons or crave simple pastels? Let me know your recommendations down below, have a lovely Easter!

Floral Nail Polish DIY

Hey,
So its half term at last, I know it feels like ages since the Christmas holiday for me, and I hope all of your weeks are as amazing as possible.

At my school, in England, as part of the uniform rules we are not allowed to wear nail polish. I hate this as I love to do and wear nail polish. So in half term one of my first activities is to paint my nails.

Although I love nails and nail polish, which I am quite good at applying on my own nails, I do make mistakes. When I try daring new nail ideas, mistakes do happen. I tried a black and white dot look, with floral on the accent nail, but it failed! So when I’d bought myself a new top coat and gorgeous pink shade, I was brave enough to try again- having inspiration from this image I discovered on Pinterest.co.uk. Follow my Pinterest here http://www.pinterest.com/lydiamoxham7/ , although I barely use it!

Here is a list of all the colour polishes I used, where you can get them and price, if they are not available anymore I will link an alternative.

  • Topcoat/ Basecoat- my favourite has to be ‘All in One’ Nail Paint by BarryM and is available in most if not all make up stores. This product is a basecoat, topcoat and adds shine. It is also a nail hardener and is my top tip for nails polish lasting and looking great. I have tried more expensive ones and a variety of similar clears, but this is my personal best find. Find it here, for just £2.99: http://www.barrym.com/products/nails/care/all-in-one-nail-paint.html
  • ‘Mint Green’ by BarryM is the background on the accent floral nail. It is one of the traditional nail paints, in a beautiful pastel green shade. I got it in  a set a while ago, but it is also available for £2.99 here http://www.barrym.com/products/nails/paint/all-nail-paints.html
  • ‘Shocking pink’ by BarryM. I used this for the original blob on the nail. One of the normal nail paint price of £2.99 here at http://www.barrym.com/products/nails/paint/all-nail-paints.html
  • For the top highlight I used a really old nail polish from a cheap set from an unknown brand. Mine has a slight glitter in it, but for a light pink shade, I think ‘baby pink’ from BarryM would be similar. It is again from their normal nail paint range but is only £1.99! http://www.barrym.com/products/nails/paint/all-nail-paints.html
  • The next is the colour for the other nails and middle pink shade. It is an absolutely gorgeous colour from Kelly Brook nails, found in New Look stores, although I can’t find a link online. I bought this really recently so it should still be available. It cost just £2.99. The label of the bottles just says- ‘KB nail polish- nautilus’.
·        For the leaves of the flowers I used a Rimmel London nail polish, from the lasting finish range. It is a emerald green shade called ‘block your green’. It again is avalible for just £2.99, http://www.superdrug.com/nail-polish/rimmel-lasting-finish-nail-polish-block-your-green-700/invt/453364 at Superdrug.

Just follow the steps on the pinterest image or my photo step by step (although the images are a little blurry) to create this look, it takes practise but I’m proud with my left hand result, even though my right is a complete mess!!!

I hope this inspired you to try these fun floral nails or some colour nail paint inspiration. Please leave a comment below saying what your favourite nail polish idea is. I hope you enjoyed this,
