Book Review: Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

Hey,

So I know how ridiculously late my monthly book review is as this is my review of my February reading, but I’ve been a little behind! However I’m going to try to get back on top of it all. For now, this is my review for the novel Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell.

The first thing I wanted to say is that this book was not what I expected. I’d heard a lot of praise about this, so when my friend let me borrow her copy, I couldn’t wait to read it. Yet this wasn’t the plot that I had imagined and I’m not too sure how I feel about it now I’ve finished.

Eleanor & Park is a romantic novel that sees a love story take place. Park is your average guy but with a warm and friendly heart. Eleanor is new to school with a family and past she tries to hide. Together all they seem to share is an English class and a place on the school bus, but that seems to be all they need.

As the novel develops, the reader learns more about both Park and Eleanor and watches them fall for one another. This plot is quite typical of a love story and is a bit clichéd and cheesy at times. But if that’s the sort of easy-to-read and traditional book you’re looking for then I fully recommend it.

For me, this novel just wasn’t enough. I felt the plot was quite slow and although it speed up at the end, it didn’t seem to develop into anything really. I wouldn’t say this is a bad book, I just don’t think its for me- I think I needed some more action or storyline! This book would be great for young teens (11-14) but if you like challenging books then I’d maybe try something else.

So that’s my short and sweet book review. If you’ve read Eleanor & Park then I’d like to know what you thought or any book requests! I hope everyone has had a lovely Wednesday,

My Current Wishlist // Spring + Summer 2015

Hey,
So today I am doing a post that I’ve never done before and I’m quite excited to try something new! I love reading other people’s wishlist-type posts and I thought it would be fun to make one of my own. Everyone has those items that they lust after but they’re either a little too out of our price zones or seem un-justifiable!  However, it is also important to treat ourselves once in a while and if you save up, it is so satisfying to tick of your most-wanted items! Today I have composed seven items which include fashion, makeup, accessories and books!

Book review: Insurgent + Allegiant by Veronica Roth

It’s time for the next book review of the month, and this is what I read in April, along with Divergent review that I already posted. Read that here: http://mydaisychaincloset.blogspot.co.uk/2014/04/book-review-divergent-by-veronica-roth.html .

So after I read Divergent, I had to read Insurgent. Unlike the Hunger Games, when I read the first book I had to read on. I was sad after the first book and didn’t want the second book to be a let down and it wasn’t.

When reading Insurgent, by Veronica Roth, the original book began to feel so simple and basic, as the second book is a little more complicated.
Insurgent was such a good read, and again I had to force myself to obey limited reading rules and force myself to put the book down. There are so many emotions in this book; grief, anger, nerves, confusion and happiness, just some of them. This means you stay hooked, and even with a more complicated storyline, you will be absorbed.
One thing this book is filled of it plot twists. Throughout the book the plot will suddenly change and leave you guessing what will be it’s future. Veronica Roth is such an amazing writer, and uses plot twists to leave you constantly surprised anf shocked! This is a brilliant ability that she implicates in every page, and I would bet that no-one at any point in this book could guess its end!

If you haven’t yet read Divergent, PLEASE DO, as I’m sure you will love it. Don’t be scared by the fact it is a trilogy, and don’t be put off of you have already watched the film- this book is incredible and is the next big thing, so don’t miss out!

Please tell me down bellow what you think of my review, and any thoughts you have of Insurgent!

I also have read Allegiant, by Veronica Roth, the final book. This does not have the same gripping plotline as the others but holds the same, if not more, deeply moving ideas and words that feel so important to the way we live. The ending if unpredictable and although I have never cried at a book, I have never been so emotionally touched- to the point that I was nearly shaking. I loved this book, and the whole series, as I think it has taught me important lessons and has provoked thoughts that let me see this world in different eyes. Life is valuable, and through all obstacles we must find a way to be brave- to show the dauntless in ourselves.

I have great respect for Veronica Roth, she has bravery and knowledge, honesty, peacefulness and selflessness as well as every other possible aptitude. She has put a powerful story into the world, a touching romance but also deeply moving ideas and important life messages. She not relise that, in the hype her books are getting (which they do diserve), that they matter to the people that read them. I hope one day she can feel my gratefulness, as she is an incredible woman.

Please read the Divergent series, it is the best book and series of books I have ever read. It gives you fantasy and love, romance and guidance, and so many more things. It is a wonderful book.

Thank you,

Book Review: 'The Perks of being a Wallflower'

Hey,

So again it has come to the time of my monthly book review. This months book is called ‘The Perks of being a Wallflower’ by Stephen Chbosky.

I heard about this book after the film, which I am yet to see, came out a few years ago. My sister read it before me and I thought it might become an interesting read, as I remember there being a hype about the film.
Overall I think this book is ok, and defiantly a good read but not a favourite of mine.

The book is written very well, and each page kept surprising me with its contents. Stephen Chbosky writes in a way that is simple to read but it still keeps you hooked.

The Perks of being a Wallflower is written in a letter style, which I found unusual but also quite refreshing to read. The main character of the story is Charlie, a boy who is just starting high school and the story takes you through the highs and lows of his first year. It is filled with love and sorrow, disasters and achievements. Through the story you learn more and more about Charlie, and as a reader you begin to really feel his thoughts.

The Perks of being a Wallflower took me a while to really get hooked to the storyline at the start but after I got into the plot, I read pages and pages and pages.
I think the book makes you feel quite inspired, as you learn how Charlie has to face challenges and overcome them. Parts are sad, other parts are very sweet and overall I think the book gave me a personal sense of freedom and awareness of my own life. I am in senior school, so I could relate to a lot of the thoughts Charlie had in his school life.

I would recommend this to anyone who liked the film, as I’m sure it is better than the film. I would also say that this book it 13+ due to some of its contents, but really that’s just an estimate as some minds mature earlier or later than that.

If you have read The Perks of being a Wallflower I would love to hear what you think, also comment down below any books you would recommend or want me to review. Thanks, have a nice day,

Book Review- The Fault in our Stars by John Green

January, with all its other gifts of motivation and blue Monday depression, gave me my list of 2014 challenges. Although most are long term, I found myself eager to begin- one of which was to read The Fault in Our Stars. I can now successfully say I’ve done that and I am so happy I ceased the challenge to read such a lovely novel.

After my sister’s persistent persuasion to read this book, and my hopefully three attempts on chapter 1, (it’s always hard to get into a book for me), I began to read. It was a night I couldn’t sleep, so reached for something to distract my mind, a book a finished about a fortnight later. As New York Times’s bestseller, I expected the book to be good, as well as all it’s popularity- and this book went up to this standard and beyond.

So the book: I don’t want to give away spoilers so there are NO SPOILERS here, for all those who don’t want the plot ruined (and TRUST ME you don’t!). This story is stupendous and immaculately written. I absolutely loved the story, it was a trip full of emotions, good and bad, heart touching moments, chapters that nearly bought me to tears, (which, on a side note, I didn’t but was close to… I never cry at books), paragraphs that made me laugh in public or even moments that melted my heart. It was brilliant.

I would recommend this book to anyone, as it doesn’t need to relate to you for you to see it’s genius. The Fault in Our Stars is a story that I’m sure you will love. As a 14 year old teenager, at a point where I have been feeling my current days have only revolved around school work, I found this book as a haven to me. I feel, through John Green’s impeccable writing and faultless descriptive style, I have actually lived the lives of the characters, felt the whirlwind of emotions they did too and driven the journey that Hazel (main character) has.

The wonder of this book is simple. It reminds you. It reminds you how lucky we all our and how wonderful we can make our lives. It shows everyone and anyone how your life can be basic or influential to billions, and matter the same. The Fault in Our Stars also reminded me to really appreciate living life. It’s the details we should remember, as well as the bigger picture.

Overall I am SO happy I have let this book nest into my mind, and let Green’s writing open my eyes to everyday life. When reading this book my stress’s are gone and I finish it believing that how awful life can sometimes feel, in the end of the universe it won’t bother anyone, so why let it bother me? The novel has given me so many moments and quotes that will cling to me heart and I never want them to leave.

I’d love to hear what you think if you’ve read the book, any books you can recommend or any books you want me to review. I do hope you take the notion to read ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ now, right now. You wont regret it!!! The book is available in most bookshops as well as sites like Amazon.com. Thank you
